Found a Model Online? We'll Print It For You

MakerWorld, Printables, Thingiverse and Thangs hold millions of free models between them. Organizers, replacement parts, toys, tools, brackets. Most of them are good. All of them assume you own a printer.

You don't need one. Find something you like, send it over, and we'll price it.

Three questions worth a thought

1. Does the page show photos of real prints, or just renders?
2. Is it one piece, or a set?
3. Does the finished size matter?

If you know the answers, great, they'll save us a round of emails. If you don't, send it anyway and we'll work them out together.

Send the file, the link, or both

Happy to take the file. Drop it straight into the quote form and we'll slice it as it is.

If you can, paste the model page URL into the notes box as well. The page carries things the file can't: the maker's notes on orientation, the settings other people found worked, the version history, and the comments underneath from everyone who has already printed it. Now and then there's a newer or better quality version sitting on that page than the one that came down with the download.

We'll read both. The file tells us what to print. The page often tells us how to print it well. Between the two we'll get you the best version of the thing you asked for.

Real prints beat renders

Most model pages have a gallery where people who printed the design post their results. It's worth a look before anything else.

Twelve photos of finished prints in different colors means strangers have already proven the design works. If all you can see is a glossy computer render, nobody has tested it yet. It might be perfect. It might also have a flaw nobody has run into. Either way, send it and we'll take a look with you.

The comments are usually worth a scroll too. Problems get reported there.

Which file do you want? We'll help

One model page can hold twenty files. Versions with and without mounting holes. Three sizes. A left and a right. Pre-supported files sitting next to plain ones. Print profiles aimed at particular machines.

No need to decode any of it. Tell us what the thing has to do and we'll pick the right one.

Some models are really a whole set

The articulated dragon. The drawer organizer system. The modular wall rack. These are often dozens of separate parts bundled into a single download, so they look like one print when they aren't.

If yours is modular, let us know how many pieces you'd like. Most people want three drawer bins rather than the full forty-piece set, and there's no sense quoting you for the rest.

Size isn't always what the photos suggest

Makers upload at whatever size their own printer handled, and that isn't always the size in the pictures. If your part has to fit something, send us the measurement. We'll scale it and check the fit before printing rather than after.

When we'll suggest something else

Once in a while a model won't print well for anyone, however it's sliced. Walls too thin to hold together, detail too fine to survive the process, geometry that needs so much support the underside comes out rough. If we spot something like that we'll let you know before you've spent anything, and we'll usually have a suggestion for something close that prints beautifully.

Occasionally a model's license doesn't allow us to print it commercially. We'll say so and help you find an alternative.

What to send us

The file, the link, or both. Tell us what it's for, and the finished size if it has to fit something. You'll get back a price, a material and a realistic date. And if we think a different model would serve you better, we'll tell you which one and why.
